SAP and Bosch to work together in IoT

Stuttgart, Sept. 22, 2016: German-based business software giant SAP and industrial conglomerate Robert Bosch GmbH (Bosch) have decided to come together and work closely on connected vehicles and industrial machines over the Internet.

News agencies Bloomberg and Reuters have reported that this was part of an initiative in Germany to improve connectivity and standards involving equipment in use and manufacturing infrastructure, with implications in automotive components manufacturing.

saplogoThe partnership allow the use of the SAP HANA in-memory database platform within the Bosch IoT Cloud, a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that enables the creation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The partnership will mean the SAP HANA Cloud Platform’s access to the IoT software tools and micro services Bosch has to offer, which means SAP can build upon the suite of IoT tools it already has.

A long-time SAP customer, Bosch expects its own “connected industry” activities to deliver 1 billion euros ($1.12 billion) in cost savings by 2020 and to generate an additional 1 billion euros in sales, said the reports.
