Aussie startup gearing up to launch fleet of satellites for IoT

Aldelaide, April 11, 2017:  This Australian start-up plans to launch the first of 100 satellites next year for the Internet of Things (IoT), for which, according to a report, it has raised $5m in a Series A funding round.

A report in ComputerWorld, Australia said the company ‘Fleet’ was developing nanosatellites which would create a global, free-to-use network for sensors and devices. The target is to connect the world’s 75 billion devices by 2025.

Another report in Mashable.com said the company was founded in Adelaide in 2015 and initially backed by matched seed funding from the South Australian Government.

It had since gained the backing of Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes and venture capital firm Blackbird’s co-founder and Managing Director, Niki Scevak, who also is now on the company’s board.

Atlassian cofounder Mike Cannon-Brookes was quoted in the report as saying the company “was solving an important problem.”

He said once ‘live’, Fleet would solve an innumerable amount of the world’s problems as it enabled the potential of technology to be turned on.
