At Barcelona Mobile Congress, Cisco chief talks of immense potential of IoE

Like it had at the CES-2014,  Cisco used the on-going Mobile World Congress 2014 trade show platform to reiterate the importance of the Internet of Everything (IoE).

Cisco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Chambers told the audience at the Congress that the Internet of Things (Iot) will potentially have between five and 10 times the impact on society over the Internet itself.

He pointed out that there were only 1,000 devices connected to the Internet when Cisco was created in 1984. By 2010, this number had gone up to about 10 billion connected devices, and in 2014, they outnumber the actual number of people now. By 2020, Chambers said, he expected to see 50 billion devices connected to the Internet.

The Cisco CEO also reiterated that the IoE would create US $19 trillion in economic benefit and value over the next decade.

The Silicon Valley networking giant had earlier emphasised the figure $14.4 trillion with the IoE by 2020. Chambers has, often in the past, communicated the potential of embracing IoE by outlining the US $19 trillion savings that could be realised in the private and public sector.
