Competition offers funding to European technology innovators

cpselabs1fortiss, the co-ordinator of the pan-European CPSE Labs consortium, has announced a new competition to provide funding and support for technology and engineering innovators around Europe.

Funded by the European Commission, CPSE Labs is an alliance of nine institutions, with a shared goal of offering support to European ICT and engineering businesses which are breaking into new markets with innovative products and services. Businesses can apply for funding for industrial experiments to develop innovative cyber-physical products and services, especially in the area of “cyber-physical systems” (CPSs); these are systems which include computational elements in addition to sensors and actuators that interact with the physical world. Successful applications may receive up to €150,000 to carry out the experiment, and also technical support from world-class researchers at one of CPSE Labs design centers located across Europe.

CPS technology has a strong overlap with IoT technology, and many engineering and technology businesses are already working in this area.

This is the third time CPSE Labs has issued a call for proposals. The deadline is June 22, 2016. Experiments that have been funded previously by the CPSE Labs initiative include experiments designed to study:
• Safe deployment of a mobile robot in an airfield runway for lighting maintenance
• Inter-operable architecture combining manufacturing CPS and Big Data analytics
• Decentralised architecture for traffic management systems
• Testing frameworks for CPS tool chain integration
• Improving Water Efficiency and Safety in Living Areas
• Shore Based Voyage Planning

Proposals submitted to CPSE Labs will undergo independent evaluation as part of the selection process, and selected proposals will receive funding and support. Full terms and eligibility criteria can be found online at www.cpse-labs.eu
