Last date for Oracle IoT Developer Challenge is May 30

For those of you who have missed this announcement, Oracle has announced a global competition – The Internet of Things (IoT) Developer Challenge, the last date for which is May 30, 2014.

The challenge will reward Java developers who create outstanding applications using Oracle’s Java embedded technologies with devices, boards and other IoT technologies.  Winners shall be announced on June 30.

The online challenge has two categories – Students and Professionals. Each team can have a maximum of three members. The teams will have to make a video presentation of the application and submit the source code.

Three teams from the Professional’s category and one team from the Student’s category will win an all-expense paid trip to JavaOne 2014 that is going to be held in San Francisco, USA in September. In addition the second and third prize winners from the Student’s category will receive a laptop and a certificate exam voucher for US $ 1500 USD and 1300, respectively.

Here’s how you can enter:

  •          Create a well-implemented, innovative and useful application using Java Embedded with devices, boards or other IoT technologies
  •          Complete the  Challenge Entry Requirements form at https://www.java.net/challenge/registration
  •          Submit a video and the code of a working project

  Criteria:

  •          The entries will be judged based on quality of implementation, innovation and usefulness.
  •          Quality: a well-implemented project with working code and that uses Oracle Java Embedded with computer boards, devices or IoT technologies
  •          Innovation: a new and innovative way of using Java Embedded
  •          Usefulness: a project that meets a business need

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded in two categories: professional and student. They include paid team trips to JavaOne, San Francisco 2014, laptops, Oracle certificate exam vouchers, and more.
