‘Smart’ move as Dubai World Trade Centre launches tech events

Dubai, May 7, 2015: The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) will enhance its position as an enabling force in the Emirate’s “smart” ambitions by rolling out a pair of dynamic new technology events this June.

Uniting government, industry and technology leaders to foster closer partnerships between public and private sector stakeholders, the Internet of Things Expo (IoTX) and The Big Data Show will combine traditional exhibitions and influential C-Level conferences when the specialist events debut from June 8, 2015.

The new technology events have been conceived to increase local and regional firms’ capacity to leverage monumental monetisation opportunities as an ever-increasing array of internet-ready devices, machines and products feature in our globally connected society.

“We live in an increasingly connected world where everything from essential citizen services to our social lives are entwined with advances in technology,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Exhibitions & Events Management, DWTC. “With the launch of Smart City and Smart Government initiatives by the Government of Dubai, there are huge opportunities for public sector, private sector and academic institutions to collaborate in making our city smarter through creativity and innovation.”

Aimed at government departments and senior decision-makers from private sector verticals such as Oil & Gas, Transport & Logistics, Retail, Healthcare, Hospitality and Education, IoTX is expected to attract 4,000 visitors. As the Middle East’s only event and conference specifically dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT), IoTX will focus on the creation, implementation and management of a next generation technology ecosystem that will change global business models, business investments, consumers’ experiences and – for citizens living in societies which embrace the technologies – everyday life.

“Dubai has always been at the cutting edge of smart technology and this event will showcase how our present and future are converging seamlessly to create a smart, predictive eco-system that will make life easier for our citizens, residents, businesses and visitors,” said His Excellency Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director General of Dubai Smart Government. “Being a strategic partner of the region’s first dedicated IoTX and the Big Data shows aligns with the Dubai Smart Government strategy (SG21) to become a world-class smart government for the 21st century and to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.”

His Excellency Ahmad Bin Byat, Chairman, Smart Dubai Executive Committee, is due to deliver the IoTX conference’s keynote address. Other innovators, visionaries and experts speaking at the confex include HE Ahmad Bin Humaidan from Dubai Smart Government, as well as representatives from Smart Dubai Steering Committee, Pacific Controls, Huawei, Dubai Internet City, Cisco, Avaya and EMC², MIT, San Francisco City, Silicon Valley, Georgia Tech, Next Nature Network, Coca Cola and Emirates Airline. High-profile break-out sessions will cover various Smart technology verticals including cities, homes, businesses and standards, as well as aviation, connected cars, education and wearables.

Aside from exploring significant monetisation opportunities in the IoT and Big Data spheres, the new events will provide tailored platforms for international experts and solutions providers to share industry advances with local and regional decision-makers. According to Dilip Rahulan, Executive Chairman & CEO of Pacific Controls, the high-level sessions could shape the implementation of potentially game-changing services for all walks of global society.

“IoT is a paradigm shift which will revolutionise life on planet Earth,” said Rahulan. “The UAE is pioneering smart cities by leveraging IOT advances and Pacific Controls is proud to showcase our innovative solutions that are already being deployed and influencing lifestyles in the UAE and abroad.”

This Website is now the official media partner of the two-day Internet of Things Expo.

Co-located with IoTX, The Big Data Show is expected to pull in over 1,000 regional business leaders eager to access and adopt cutting-edge ideas and technologies to improve big data and analytics practices and explore open data strategies in their respective domains.

A pioneering platform for the data analytics and business intelligence sectors, the two-day conference and exhibition has been conceived to present a clear big data business case for regional IT, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations and Sales & Marketing department heads from a diverse spread of industries including Government, Oil & Gas, Aviation, Telecommunications, Finance, Healthcare, Hospitality, Construction, Travel & Tourism, Retail, Media & Entertainment and Manufacturing.

“The size, variety and growth of data are increasing daily due to connected devices and the Internet of Things,” said Abdulla Al Madani, Head of Dubai Open Data Committee & CEO of Corporate Technical Support Services, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Association (RTA). “Smart phones, innovative apps, social media platforms, and cutting-edge technologies have led to a data explosion unprecedented in the history of human civilisation. CIOs must invest in IT systems that enable them to turn increasing amounts of data into strategic insight and intelligence and organisations must develop Big Data strategies as integral components in their IT strategies instead of blindly buying Big Data solutions.”
